RESPECT (POEM FOR OR ABOUT CHILDREN)

RESPECT

Not easy to teach kids how to respect,
the world, in and out, is full of suspect.
Teachers and parents preach courtesy,
speak worn- out magic words nimbly.
Adults talk on how to behave best,
patience runs out when put to test.
To change attitude, they scold and shout,
unaware kids blackout what they talk about.
They listen and imitate what parents do,
and construe their interaction as true.
Rewards ,punishment for conduct are tricky,
Kids exploit and blackmail games more cutely.
Concern and care for others are learned values,
Nurture cannot subdue nature, merely infuses.
