Note:

In April Chinese pay respect to the dead in the month of Qingming  (Ghost Festival). They fly their kites in remembrance of their dear ones, among the winds, carrying grief message and bad omen to the netherworld. They cut off the worldly cords, as symbolism of detachment; each have their own lives to live.

Now kite flying is more of a social entertainment event. In international festive show, it would be a great sight.
