RECOMMENDED READING AT END OF YEAR 2018

RECOMMENDED READING AT END OF YEAR 2018

A lot of angst marked the end of 2018. The economic and political crisis abroad and at home have polarized the world and our nation and rendered most of us powerless, when the promises of hope have plummeted. The fear and hopelessness are pervasive. They have bubbled and burst into our emotional domain and psyche. There is a need to examine it. There are two recent books (published in 2018) to help us to understand the current crisis, exploring the structure of fear in political crisis and moral anxiety philosophically. As poet, we read, reflect and write, and share those landscapes in our poetry.

POEM TRANSLATION HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 418

ZOMBIE ARISES

lush growth looted bare

unabashed in sunny sky

weather withered fast

ominous dark clouds

disasters befall the land

wolves howl and wag tails

zombie arises

promise of hope plummeted

jingle jungle drums

TANKA TO TANKA INTERACTION

TANKA TO TANKA INTERACTION

Tanka 95 by Claudia McGill

The repetition

is deceiving. One gray tree

is not another.

Let the eye rest on the whole.

Let the eye perceive the one

This is my response in tanka:

same yet not the same

perspective in perception

words and eyes differ

the whole is or not the one

yet the one points to the whole

CHRISTMAS PRAYER

idyllic setting

sun woo behind distant hill

in twilight decline

woolly headed brute

chase the charm of orange hue

augurs shift of shine

the moon of Christmas

dash away cheek and goodwill

hand and ankle cuffed

NOTE:

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR TO ALL READERS.

POEM TRANSLATION AND HAIKU TO HAIKU INTERACTION

POEM TRANSLATION AND HAIKU TO HAIKU INTERACTION

Claudia Mcgill responds to haiku 414, BENEVOLENCE, thus:

Watery moonlight

pours through half-turned window blinds

I swim through my dreams

This is my response, haiku to haiku:

INSIGHT OR IN SIGHT

magic of moonlight

visions vaporize in day

blind by bright sun glare
