POEM TRANSLATION HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 419

POEM TRANSLATION HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 419

BACK TO NORMAL

dead bonsai withered

weird to wake up life cycle

wishy washy whine

the gap break and bind

nothing is back to normal

norm is abnormal

fresh look at the dead

new meaning to appease mind

return is reborn

Note:

My aging joint had decayed and was medically considered dead. The total knee joint replacement has made slow improvement in walking, but it has not returned to “normal.” I pause to wonder at what stage of recovery is considered normal, with diverse trajectories of illnesses and recoveries in each person. Well only the joint is replaced; muscle wasting and power have yet to recover. There is thus no standard norm. Instead of the joint, what if the whole body is dead. Looking at Life Cycle taught, we often forget and ignore the gap, and assumed there is continuation of the processes in the specific, and not life in the general. It is impossible for a biological brain or mind think of its own ending .We need to reinvent new meaning to comfort ourselves. Life is thus reborn; my physical body is not really returned, partly cyborg now. A new mindset is reborn to look at the re-linking Cycle: more acceptance and less self-delusion.

We do need to look at the whole and not only one part. As i age different parts are slowing down but my mind finds compensation through the parts that work. I enjoyed reading your poem and especially your thoughts on this process of ageing

What’s important is that you love writing poetry, it is a personal healing therapy for you.
