MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 485: STEADFAST DECLINE

cry Malaysians cry

nation torn apart by race

rhetoric divide

leadership crisis

contenders compete in change

of compromises

desperate message

self-destruct in blood spilled path

down to the fourth world

Note:

Today is the 62th National Independent Day of the nation. Normally all races should be exhilarated by the grandeur. The hearts of many minorities are depressed by wild sentiments. Even a Malay academician delivered a desperate message about the “meaningless of the Independence”. This might not be shared by all, but it’s an unusual event to mark in my poetry narration. The tittle “steadfast” is from the Malay translation of “Setia”, meaning of loyal sacrifices to oath, friendship, nation etc.
