MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 446: ‘ALL SHOOK UP”

MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 446: ‘ALL SHOOK UP”

disconnect from past

suffering shift to desire

everlasting pain

tormented by time

saintly patience cross by lust

seductive sexes

pristine beauty bloom

corona charged with grandeur

passion for the bees

 Note:

My wife threw some passion fruit seeds near the fence.  She is so thrilled to see it flowers and bear fruits. The flowers withered fast within a day or two. Hope the suffering and desire of the bees will bear fruits. She challenged me to write a haiku/senryu on the topic.

   POPPIES

bewitch by the bloom

colours captivate the eyes

carpets bask in sun

perfume perfuses

senses stir and steer by sight

thinking stray away

poppies pacify

due dose of euphoria

beauty in lofty

Note:

Beauty is a joy forever; whether it’s sight, sound, touch or any bodily sense. In nature, everything is fleeting, and maybe  imperfect by association.   We associate poppies with its medicinal values, and its abuse in drug addiction. However it has nothing to do with the flowers per se, but with the mind  that uses it.

MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 443: YANXI PALACE

power corridors

cruelty and ugliness

enact in drama

harem feudal feud

devilish chaste concubines

ploy and plot to live

fragile human hearts

temptation and  trickeries

survival intrigue

gossips and rumour

schemes, betrayal, lure and lust

rife in forbidden

cronies gang in court

corruption choke the kingdom

end the dynasty

Note:

This is a poetic response to a historical drama, with exciting plots and sub plots, lively characters, view of forbidden city. There are seventy episodes, each last about 45 mins.

SUPER BLOOM

varied colour bloom

hills dress with floral patterns

with breath holding skirts

fresh fragrance in air

verdant vista, rolling hills

intoxicated

adrift in my dream

ferry by fairies in clouds

dangle in blue sky

the world without languages

HYPERBOLE & HOAX

hyperbole heat

hype hit social media

historical hoax

Note:

Hyperbole is a literary device that has been abused in massive scale, from superpower presidents to ordinary citizens in the routine forwarded mails or other social media. The humour bubble bursts with overblown air. It is misunderstood as adages. We see varied repeats of historical hoaxes, in the pretexts of hollow human rights slogans, freedom, democracy and even in trade disputes.  The intention is to bluff, bully and control another.  This is the AGE OF TALKING BIG.

This haiku is inspired by slides of Eliza Waters, SUPER BLOOM, posted on 17thMarch 2019.

Please visit her blog to view her stunning slides. https://elizawaters.com/2019/03/17/super-bloom.  Some readers have added the site in their Bucket List. I share that sentiment, and extend my list of dying regrets.

QUE SERA SERA

dare to think ahead

braver to bounce back from wall

change quest and query

reframe and restrain

forcing answer is awesome

cracks in crazy chase

light shine and shower

with sparks outside the ball game

que sera sera

Note:

We cherish to ponder over the imponderable, part of our quest for meaning of living. It is always the tussle between free will and fate. Whatever the choice, there is always some uncertainties. The doubt irks some; fun for the others. We can only perform our best; leave the rest to heaven or god, or the nameless. There is limitation of our brain circuit; AI may not answer all the unanswerable.  We learn to rest when we hit the wall. The crack may drive us crazy or light may shine through another domain. Creativity always come invited.

V.J Knutton is an educator. Her insistence on the inquisitive of the elusive is adorable. The above run of haiku/senryu is in response to her Quest. The cartoon is copied and pasted from the web.

POEM TRANSLATION TANKA INTERACTION 111

POEM TRANSLATION TANKA INTERACTION 111

GATES AND GUARDS

sound waves spread voices

flowing over and across

the wide-open sky

stretching out past gravity

through the narrow gates of speech

To honour another poet and her Tanka, this is my response:

unwary sense doors

free flow of affinity

aural to oral

message distortion across

care with the gates and lax guards

Note:

The poetry is about the mind door watching the other five sense doors.  Often this is how each plays with time response and lag. The forces of affinity cannot be overlooked.  Thinking is often the thief in our reaction and heuristics of modern living; what works in our favour may turn against. When excess senses impinge on the doors, it is easy to be off guarded. Formal meditation is in more controlled environment. A quiet retiring life is in similar circumstances: often there are few opportunities to do good and right; the opposites are often caught unaware.

MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 437: BUILD BRIDGES

MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 437: BUILD BRIDGES

sight of tranquil scene

calm the mind, still the chaos

noises in the brain

scan burdened body

move to release the stresses

in and out stretches

breathe in, hold, and out

aware of pain and let go

build bridge to connect

harmony across

attune to fight, freeze or flight

habits of routine

Note:

This haiku/senryu is in response to Sue Vincent’s photo prompt, with the theme of TRANQUIL, posted on 10th March 2019. Thank you for the inspiration Sue.
