MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 437: BUILD BRIDGES

MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 437: BUILD BRIDGES

sight of tranquil scene

calm the mind, still the chaos

noises in the brain

scan burdened body

move to release the stresses

in and out stretches

breathe in, hold, and out

aware of pain and let go

build bridge to connect

harmony across

attune to fight, freeze or flight

habits of routine

Note:

This haiku/senryu is in response to Sue Vincent’s photo prompt, with the theme of TRANQUIL, posted on 10th March 2019. Thank you for the inspiration Sue.

FALL FOR FAIR CHANCE

hang on heart shaped hook

perilous on open end

hope on red alert

shape for sentiment

affection high in thin air

rescue runs below

black dress in distress

harp on hold no more, hail help

fall for a fair chance

Note:

With infatuation, it is difficult to see one is holding at the open end of the hook.  It is easy to take the shape as true sentiment of love, until the red alert. Many think too much about the danger of fall, with  or without rescue below, and keep holding on to a failed relate. There is also a chance in any crisis. Letting go of distress may be de stressed, or end up more trouble ad infinitum.

darkness in disguise

Note:

Readers and poets (or writers) have their own interpretation of the photo. No one has exclusive claim that one is more right than the other. I am prejudiced by my profession.

My perception is given in the tittle, WINTER BLUE (SAD: seasonal affective disorder), a depression related to seasonal change. Depression affects about 20% of the population and is increasing with the stresses of modern living. SAD affects females more than males; genetic based due to melanin (sunlight deprivation) and low dopamine level. It is not easy for the so called normal person to understand the torments and conflict in the psyche of the depressed. The threshold is more mental than physical; common sense logic or rational arguments will not be relevant. The depressed see everything in darkness, and the lethargy to move out. Mobility and social contact are the prime move. Had her pet rushed out, the owner might have followed, but the animal was affected by her sadness. Sunlight (or artificial light within the house), human interaction and physical activities are practical solution. Of course there are many therapies and anti-depressive medications. I believe poetic therapy offers some insight to our fear and darkness before overwhelmed by illnesses. Unfortunately the genre is dying. How I wish the feline will just meow out loud. MEOW!

Note:

This poetry is about power (sex, money, time) in dyad relate. Every household needs a circuitry plan and phase control as safeguard. Some may have bigger wire in their fuse ampere, but the principles of wire connectivity are still the same. The adrenalin and testosterone have varying levels of activity and limitation; fear, flight and freeze reactions are primitive and time phase, with its own advantage and limitation. A gain in one aspect may be a lost or surrender in another. We learn to switch off some in order to switch on another want (often confuse with need). This is to prevent over heating.

BACK TO NORMAL

dead bonsai withered

weird to wake up life cycle

wishy washy whine

the gap break and bind

nothing is back to normal

norm is abnormal

fresh look at the dead

new meaning to appease mind

return is reborn

Note:

My aging joint had decayed and was medically considered dead. The total knee joint replacement has made slow improvement in walking, but it has not returned to “normal.” I pause to wonder at what stage of recovery is considered normal, with diverse trajectories of illnesses and recoveries in each person. Well only the joint is replaced; muscle wasting and power have yet to recover. There is thus no standard norm. Instead of the joint, what if the whole body is dead. Looking at Life Cycle taught, we often forget and ignore the gap, and assumed there is continuation of the processes in the specific, and not life in the general. It is impossible for a biological brain or mind think of its own ending .We need to reinvent new meaning to comfort ourselves. Life is thus reborn; my physical body is not really returned, partly cyborg now. A new mindset is reborn to look at the re-linking Cycle: more acceptance and less self-delusion.

ATTITUDE AND ACTION

joint pain wax and wane

hope flip a coin in mid air

gamble with chance game

staked attitude and action

play and pray with wind of change

Note:

At each junction or crossroads, we have to make our choices:  habits, gps, waze, friendly suggestions etc Each carries their pros and cons; there is always an uncertainty element. In illnesses many seek second or third opinions. These views might differ or similar, but expressed differently. Again there are choices on which one to accept or discard; most will accept views that match their likings, not necessarily the right one. If one adopt a good attitude, right mindset, and takes action accordingly, the risks minimizes. Once decision is made, act; any hesitation or procrastination is indecision again. There is no certainty. Faith and fate also play their roles in a changing world.

MALAYSIAN HAIKU/SENRYU ECHOES 415: INSIGHT OR IN SIGHT

Claudia Mcgill responds to haiku 414, BENEVOLENCE, thus:

Watery moonlight

pours through half-turned window blinds

I swim through my dreams

This is my response, haiku to haiku:

magic of moonlight

visions vaporize in day

blind by bright sun glare
