CLOUD APPRECIATION AT ION SKY, SINGAPORE

CLOUD APPRECIATION AT ION SKY, SINGAPORE

It is  a joy to visit ION SKY, Singapore, on its 55th floor. It gives a panoramic view of the city. The view of cloud formation from a height ( or opened grassland) is always an amazement. One is always awed by the majesty and beauty of nature, and yet fearful of its powerful destruction.  For idlers who have time to spare, watching the passing and transience of cloud movement and formation is a joy forever.

There were writings  by VIPs etched on some of its glass window. There were verses written by romantic poets and other dreamy utopians. In my ignorance, I first read about Cloud Appreciation Society. A search in the web later, found such society was founded by Gavin Pretor-Dinney, UK, in 2005, and the movement has spread to 165 countries with huge membership. I was not aware that even clouds were given names, and there was at least ten major types. Fallstreak Hole,  Morning Glory, Ciirrus, Cumulus, Stratus etc were unheard of. It was indeed an amazement that humans liked to name things and formed societies. The very minute we named it, we lost the beauty in the naming. It returns to the understanding of what “appreciation” means to us. Is it about awareness, sensitivity or a judgement and value given by mortals?  It is not for me to answer for others. Enjoy! ( A beautiful word in English).
