WINTER BLUE

（蓝冬）

 

woolen winter wear

冬季羊毛装

cold dark confine with a cat

寒晚暗与猫兒困

the blues begets back

蓝調再回来

 

too scare to step out

太害怕步出

mind door dare not cross threshold

靈魂不敢跨門槛

sad and somnolent

悲傷和嗜睡

 

her mood mock by pet

猫笑她心態

sun, sea, and clear sky seen as

视太陽、海和天睛

darkness in disguise

黑暗中偽装

My perception is given in the tittle, WINTER BLUE (SAD: seasonal affective disorder), a depression related to seasonal change. Depression affects about 20% of the population and is increasing with the stresses of modern living. SAD affects females more than males; genetic based due to melanin (sunlight deprivation) and low dopamine level. It is not easy for the so called normal person to understand the torments and conflict in the psyche of the depressed. The threshold is more mental than physical; common sense logic or rational arguments will not be relevant. The depressed see everything in darkness, and the lethargy to move out. Mobility and social contact are the prime move. Had her pet rushed out, the owner might have followed, but the animal was affected by her sadness. Sunlight (or artificial light within the house), human interaction and physical activities are practical solution. Of course there are many therapies and anti-depressive medications. I believe poetic therapy offers some insight to our fear and darkness before overwhelmed by illnesses. Unfortunately the genre is dying. How I wish the feline will just meow out loud. MEOW!
